Departing from Auckland, your Waitomo and Rotorua day tour will take you south through the fertile farmland of the New Zealand countryside to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, where you will join your local guide on a walking tour through this amazing network of caves. The highlight of your visit will be a gentle boat ride along a dark underground stream, with thousands of glow worms lighting up the walls and ceilings around you.
A picnic lunch will be served as you travel to Rotorua, a city known for its authentic Māori culture and geothermal activity. Your first stop will be the innovative ZORB® adventure attraction, where you can enjoy the 'Zydro' experience - rolling down a hill in a giant, inflatable ball with some water thrown in! (Water is warm in winter and cool in summer - make sure you bring your swim suit and a towel.)
Next, visit Te Puia - an incredible showcase of Māori culture. Your visit begins with a 40-minute concert of traditional Māori song and dance, including a welcome Powhiri, Haka, Poi Dance, and Stick Games. Some members of the audience will be invited to participate in the Haka (Maori War Dance).
Following the performance, join a guided tour of Te Puia. Learn the history behind Māori carving, weaving, and their pre-European lifestyle. Visit the famous Whakarewarewa geothermal area to see the Pohutu Geyser, boiling mud pools, fumaroles, and colourful silica deposits.
